2008 APEC PERU LEADERS WILL ISSUE DECLARATION OF LIMA TO CONCLUDE THE ASIA-PACIFIC ENCOUNTER

• Conclusions about subjects of transcendental importance will be presented for the economic and social development of the region.

The 16° Asia-Pacific   Economic Cooperation Fora (APEC) Leaders Meeting comes to an end today. In this Meeting,   Leaders of 21 Member Economies will discuss crucial issues for the region economic and social development.

Beginning at 10.00 a.m., at the Ministry of Defense Convention Center – MoD, the II Leaders Summit
Retreat will take place. In this meeting the report prepared by APEC Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Trade will be analyzed, which will serve as a base in order to elaborate the Lima Declaration.

The document will contain transcendental conclusions and commitments about 12 forum major issues: Food Security, Trade and Investment Liberalization and Facilitation, Social Corporate Responsibility, Anti-Corruption and Transparency, Support for the Doha Round, Climate Change, Economic and Technical Cooperation, Structural Reform, and Global Economic issues.

It should be noted that even though the Financial Crisis was not initially included in the forum agenda, the current juncture made it part of the Leaders debate. That is why, an independent Declaration regarding the global financial crisis and the alternatives for handling them, will be also issued.

Leaders official photography will be taken at 12.15 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. the Final Declaration ceremony will take place, event in which the 21 Leaders will subscribe the document that will have the conclusions of this Summit.

After lunch, a press conference will be held at the Government Palace from 3:45 p.m. It will provide details about the Summit final document and the 2008 APEC PERU most important conclusions.

Simultaneously, at the International Media Center (IMC), a press conference will be developed in room B, at 2:30 p.m, Kazuo Kodama, Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press secretary, will discuss about the bilateral relationships between Japan and the other Members Economies.
