• Japan, Chinese Taipei and China expressed particular interest in Corporate Social Responsibility, Trade Liberalization and Financial Crisis, themes.
• Report prepared by Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Trade will be also examined.
APEC Leaders Summit I and II Retreat will be developed today and tomorrow, proposals contained in the report prepared by Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministers of trhe Asia-Pacific Region will be reviewed. Lima Declaration will be based on this document, which covers APEC 12 major topics.
One of the themes to be discussed during the retreats is Trade Liberalization and Facilitation as well as Investment, which aims to establish measures in order to provide greater economic integration and free trade among the Economies. Themes related to Anti-Corruption and Transparency will be also discussed, with a view to strengthening capabilities in prevention and prosecution of corruption areas.
On the same vein, recommendations on Climate Change issues will be also examined. This examination look for new ways to reduce risks regarding environmental matters; Regional Economic Integration, transcendental to smooth the way towards economic growth; Doha Round support, in line with goals set by the World Trade Organization-WTO, APEC Reform and Corporate Social Responsibility, which seeks to implement best corporate practices along the region.
Other themes are: Structural Reform, Food Security, Economic and Technical Cooperation, Global Economic Issues and Human Security. Likewise, an Independent Statement on Financial Crisis, will be elaborated in order to establish timely response mechanisms to face current international economic issues.
It is important noting that, during the Summit, some Economies have already declared themselves regarding unavoidable issues. This is the case of Chinese Taipei, which has special interest in Financial Crisis, Trade Liberalization, Social Corporate Responsibility and Human Security themes.
As far as it is concerned, Japan expressed it is confident that an action plan to reform the global financial market will be supported, Doha Round negotiations come to a successful end, and that topics such as the Regional Integration Climate Change and Human Security are debated. In addition, People´s Republic of China Leader, Hu Jintao, also plead in order to prioritize themes such as Corporate Social Responsibility, proposed by Peru during this Summit.
