JAPAN AND CHINESE TAIPEI WILL TAKE PROPOSALS TO APEC LEADERS WEEK

• Asian Economies have shown their interests in promoting the Human Security and the Regional Integration.
 
This noon, the press secretary of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Relations, Kazuo Kodama, announced the most important points that will bring, this Saturday 22 and Sunday 23, to the APEC PERU 2008 Leaders Week.

In that regard, he noted that Japan hopes for the support of this action plan for reforming the global financial market, recently proposed at the G-20 Leaders meeting. He also, hoped for the commitment of APEC members to bring the negotiations of the Doha Round to a successful conclusion and that the promotion of regional economic integration is discussed, which allows a free trade area for the Asia-Pacific region.

Other issues such as climate change and human security are proposals particularly backed by Japan, which has the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050, and providing assistance to refugees from countries that are undergoing an internal struggle.

It also announced the signing of an Investment Protection Agreement between Peru and Japan, as well as bilateral meetings to be held, tomorrow Saturday, the Leader of Japan, Taro Aso, with his counterpart from Russia, Dmitry Medvedev. A second meeting will be held by the Leaders of Korea, the United States and Japan in order to talk about the deactivation of the nuclear programs of North Korea.

Trade Liberalization

On the other hand, in the afternoon, the representative of the Leader from Chinese Taipei, Lien Chan, has said that his Economy has total interest in the 21 leaders of the Asia-Pacific region can address issues such as: the World Financial Crisis, the Free Trade, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - item proposed by Peru- and Human Security.

He also expressed his commitment to achieving trade liberalization and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs). As evidence of this, Chinese Taipei launched a Ad hoc project which consists in training people in the use of information technology, with the aim of reducing the digital void. In the first phase of the project more than 60 thousand people from seven economies were involved, and is already starting the second phase known as the Ad Hoc 2.

On the other hand, Lien Chan, confirmed today that he met with the Leader from People´s Republic  of China, Hu Jintao, with whom he held a conversation about the agreements between the two economies, with a view to promoting a joint development.
