• Top security to receive the Leaders at the Ministry of Defense Convention Center
Vice-admiral Luis Giampietri Rojas, Chairman of the APEC 2008 High-Level Commission, was optimistic about the closing of negotiations for the signature of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the People’s Republic of China, in the frame of the visit of this Economic Leader, Hu Jintao, to Peru to participate in APEC 2008 Leaders’ Week.
Vice-admiral Giampietri highlighted that the visit of the highest representative of China also shows an interest from that Economy to finalize a greater joint economic and commercial integration. “I believe that from every point of view, it is a good opportunity for Peru", he said while he visited the International Media Center (IMC).
He also said that tourism and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) would be mostly benefited with this commercial agreement. “The increase of goods manufacturing and the size of the Chinese market will favor SMEs, whenever they work collectively, with discipline; meeting agreed terms and complying with quality standards,” he said.
Vice-Admiral Giampietri also said that he was pleased with the visit of the Chinese Leader, Hu Hintao, since it was the first time in which a Leader from this economy is visiting Peru.

In another moment, APEC 2008 High-Level Chairman emphasized that everything was ready to receive APEC Leaders regarding infrastructure and the necessary logistics arrangements, especially on security topics.
To this regard, Carmen Berrocal, Telecommunications Advisor of the Security and Communications Area of the APEC 2008 High-Level Commission, informed that the movement and permanence of the senior representatives of the Asia-Pacific region that will meet for the XVI APEC Leaders’ Meeting at the Ministry of Defense Convention Center, is controlled and monitored by an integrated security system that will keep in continuous alert the agents and security officials, 24 hours a day.
This system, designed to guarantee the normal conduction of the joint and bilateral sessions that APEC Economic Leaders will follow on 22 and 23 November; has security cameras and interconnected cutting-edge digital equipment, installed for the first time in Peru and that allow for the monitoring of the venues, both inside and outside.
The different areas by which the APEC Leaders will circulate have security cameras with a 360° vision and a system to detect up to the minimum detail. To guard the external areas, video cameras that allow for surveillance of the entire perimeter of the Ministry of Defense Convention Center, as well as to monitor up to a distance of 1500m2 surrounding the venue.
All this equipment is interconnected to a control room with a digital system that is located in the very venue where the APEC Leaders’ sessions will take place, and to a Virtual Communication, Coordination and Monitoring Center, located in the headquarters of the APEC 2008 High-Level Commission (CEAN APEC).
