• APEC PERU 2008 Leaders’ Week starts on Sunday, November 16. Leaders of the 21 Economies, businessmen and Senior Officials of the Asia-Pacific region will attend several events
APEC PERU 2008 Leaders’ Week will be held starting on Sunday, 16 November to Sunday 23 November, 2008. It will bring together representatives from the most important Economies of the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting will have the attendance of eight thousand people approximately, including Leaders, Delegates, Authorities, Government Officials, Businessmen and Journalists representing all 21 APEC Member Economies.
“APEC forum becomes a unique opportunity for the Peruvian people. It is expected that, in the coming years, investments will generate up to 10 billion dollars for Peru, from the Asia-Pacific region”, assured Vice Admiral Luis Giampietri, Chairman of the APEC 2008 High-Level Commission. He leads the organization of one of the most important meeting of economic and trade discussion of the globe.
Nineteen Leaders, 55 Ministers and more than 3600 delegates will attend these meetings that will be held from this weekend forward. APEC Forum starts with the Conclusive Senior Officials’ Meeting (CSOM). Event that will take place on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 at the National Museum, the conclusions achieved after the three Senior Official Meetings (SOM I, II and III) held in Lima and Arequipa in the previous months, will be discussed.
The next event to be held is the SMEs Second Summit of ABAC, on Monday, November 17, from 9.00 am to 6.00pm, at the Real Felipe Fortress Convention Center, in Callao. This event will have the attendance of Small and Medium International Businessmen that will share their histories of success. This Summit will be closed by the Peruvian Economic Leader, President Alan García Pérez. Furthermore, on November 17, the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Meeting will be held at Los Delfines Hotel until Thursday 20, which will also be attended by the President of the Republic of Peru during the opening ceremony on Tuesday 18 November, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
On 19 Wednesday and 20 Thursday, at the National Museum, the APEC Joint Ministerial Meeting will be held, gathering the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ministers Responsible for Foreign Trade from all 21 Economies. The first day, Ministers will hold two retreats and on Thursday a Plenary session will be held, followed by a Press Conference at 12.30pm, also at the National Museum. The Forum “Invest in Peru” that will be carried out at the Vertex of the National Museum will begin with the opening remarks by the Economic Leader of Peru at 8.45 am. Then, several experts will give lectures on investment areas in Peru. The penultimate meeting will be the CEO Summit, which will be held from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 at the Ministry of Defense Convention Center (MoD). The opening session will be addressed by Peruvian Economic Leader, Alan García on 21 Friday, at 9.00 a.m.
Finally, APEC 2008 Leaders’ Meeting will start on 22 Saturday at the Ministry of Defense Convention Center. On the first day, Leaders will hold their first Retreat. They will have a dialogue with the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and will then have a gala dinner. On 23 Sunday, Leaders will carry out their second Retreat, will have the official photo taken and will read the Final Declaration of APEC PERU 2008 to the public at 12.30pm. At 3.45p.m., the same day, a Press Conference at the Government Palace will be carried out, where the Peruvian Economic Leader, Dr. Alan García and the Singaporean Leader, Lee Hsien Long will participate.
Leaders’ Week will be the climax of a year in which Peru has organized 122 APEC Forum meetings, in 11 cities throughout the country. After nine months of arduous meetings and discussions, conclusions of these meetings will be presented on the Leaders’ Final Declaration.
