APEC 2008 HIGH-LEVEL COMMISSION PREPARES VENUES FOR LEADERS’ WEEK

• The Ministry of Defense Convention Center and the National Museum are being prepared to receive Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Region
• Leaders and their delegations’ routes are to be monitored from new  Integrated Surveillance Video Network

APEC Peru 2008 High Level Commission’s Chairman, Vice Admiral Luis Giampietri, visited the Peruvian Prime Minister, Mr. Yehude Simon, last Tuesday in order to present the progress of the organization of APEC Leaders’ Week, to be held from Sunday 16 to Sunday 23 November. This important Summit will take place in four different venues: the Ministry of Defense and the National Museum as main venues; besides, the Real Felipe Fortress, where the 2nd APEC SMEs Summit will be held.

“Different rooms are being prepared inside the Ministry of Defense Convention Center, according to the protocols demanded by APEC. APEC Leaders will meet in informal and protocolar sessions so as to discuss topics of interest for the Asia-Pacific Region. Likewise, The International Media Center, where 2600 local and foreign journalists covering the events taking place at the Leaders’ Week will be received, is being implemented”, claimed APEC High-Level Commission’s Chairman, Luis Giampietri.

Security measures before, during and after Leaders’ Week are guaranteed in different aspects. A very important one is the transportation of Leaders from the moment they arrive to our country.

“So as to monitor the routes followed by the Leaders, and for the first time in Peru, an Integrated Surveillance Video Network has been created, composed by over 200 video-surveillance cameras of the Peruvian National Police and Municipalities of Miraflores, San Isidro and San Borja, placed in areas the Leaders’ motorcades will pass through on the routes that will be daily covered between their hotels and the meetings’ venues”, stated Vice Admiral Luis Giampietri.

He also added that the High-Level Commission created for the organization of APEC Peru 2008 is giving its best to make this Leaders’ Summit a world landmark. “Up to now, we have received over 8 thousand visitors from the Asia-Pacific Region. And around 9 thousand more from the 21 APEC Member Economies, among Delegates, State Officials and journalists, who will surely get to know the best of our country, are expected to arrive for Leaders’ Week”, highlighted the APEC Peru 2008 High-Level Commission’s Chairman, Vice Admiral Luis Giampietri.
