Lima, 15 October 2008CYBER-SECURITY WITH MULTI-SECTORAL APPROACH WAS PROPOSED FOR APEC REGION• Member Economies acknowledged that all the Internet stakeholders and users must get involved. • The Telecommunications Working Group works to develop a device to face malware.
The Convenor of the APEC Prosperity and Security Unit of the Information Technologies and Telecommunications Working Group and Senior Researcher of the Korean Center of Security in Internet, Jinhyun Cho, informed that during the sessions and workshops carried out in the APEC Telecommunications Meetings, the Asia-Pacific Economies proposed regulatory frameworks and multi-sector policies that ensure network security, involving the main stakeholders and users of this technological mean.
“Cyber security is a multi-sector problem; this is why, to prevent the indiscriminate and malicious use of the Internet network, cooperation from the government, the private sector and final users is needed, including minors”, he said.
He also added that is critical to create an interconnection network among APEC Economies and regional regulatory frameworks to address the cyber crime problem in an integrated fashion. Likewise, he said that we should work in the creation of legal mechanisms to punish those responsible for the insecurity in this information systems mean.
On this matter, he mentioned that China has proposed the creation of a device to face the malware that originate the SPAM, as well as the programs that steal personal data and distribute information without the users’ authorization.
This morning, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Verónica Zavala, opened the Plenary Session of the 38th Telecommunications and Information Technologies Working Group Meeting, where Delegates from the 21 APEC Economies discussed about the topics addressed during the prior sessions, as well as other topics related to funding projects.
